Lou Raptakis

Welcome!

Welcome to my website. Thank you for taking the time to visit and learn more about me and why I am running for Secretary of State.

I was motivated to first run for office 18 years ago, because I was frustrated with the direction that our state was heading in on the heels of the banking crisis. Since then, I have been a consistent fighter for the people of my district and for all Rhode Islanders.

Today, we have another crisis on our hands. High unemployment, high rates of foreclosures, and a way of doing business that is not business-friendly: these are the challenges we face across Rhode Island. My plan for our state includes a pro-active and independent voice in the Secretary of State's Office who will work together with Rhode Islanders to cut red tape, improve transparency within state government, and work aggressively to ensure that our citizens are presented with the most accessible form of information about their government every single day.

This is my vision for Rhode Island, and this is why I want to be your next Secretary of State.

We need a Secretary of State who is a watchdog for the people of Rhode Island. We need a Secretary of State who is committed to promoting public access to the decision-making process, not simply by making legislative information easily available but by fighting to make sure the public has full access to legislative meetings and the votes taken in those meetings. And we need a Secretary of State who will finally help to reduce the red tape facing small businesses and make sure that state agencies are sharing information rather than demanding excess paperwork from businesses seeking licenses and permits.
